Exit Missouri Valley on Hiway, 10 mi, west


The Bertrand stuck and snag and sank in 1865 near the present refuge site.
The Visitor Center has 200,000 items from the Steamboat.

The refuge has 8,000 acres of wetlands, grasslands, and  
woodlands alongside the Missouri River, offers a refuge for ducks, geese and other wildlife. 
There are bird watching areas. 

Visitor Center open 9 am to 4:30 pm.  Refuge open daylight hours.
